The History of Thanksgiving On the fourth Thursday of every November, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving, a national holiday honoring the early settlers and their harvest feast known as the first Thanksgiving. This is the story of how this holiday came to be. The modern Thanksgiving holiday tradition traces its origins to a 1621 celebration at Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts.
The first thanksgiving was in 1621. It was a three day feast and celebration in which the pilgrims and Native Americans gave thanks for their new friendship and for all they had when things were very bleak for them just a few months earlier. when the two parties first met, there was distrust and hostility between them, but in time they became friends and helped one another as best they could. If it wasn't for the Native Americans the pilgrims may not have survived in the new world.
